PANEER SHAWARMA

Ingredients:

🧀 For the Paneer Marinade:

  • 250g paneer (cubed)

  • 2 tbsp yogurt (curd)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp garlic paste

  • 1 tsp paprika or red chili powder

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp ground coriander

  • 1 tsp garam masala or shawarma spice mix

  • 1 tsp dried oregano or thyme

  • Salt – to taste

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

🌯 For the wrap:

  • Pita bread, tortillas, or flatbreads

  • Sliced onions

  • Sliced tomatoes

  • Sliced cucumbers

  • Lettuce or shredded cabbage

  • Pickles (optional)

  • Fresh coriander or mint leaves

🥒 Garlic Yogurt Sauce (optional but recommended):

  • ½ cup yogurt

  • 1 clove garlic (minced)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Salt and pepper to taste


👨‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Marinate Paneer:

  • In a bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, garlic paste, paprika, cumin, coriander, garam masala, oregano, salt, and olive oil.

  • Add paneer cubes, coat well, and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the fridge).

2. Cook Paneer:

  • Heat a grill pan or regular pan with a little oil.

  • Grill or sauté the marinated paneer cubes until golden and slightly charred on all sides (about 3–4 minutes per side).

3. Prepare Garlic Yogurt Sauce:

  • Mix yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.

4. Assemble Shawarma Wrap:

  • Warm the pita or flatbread.

  • Spread some garlic yogurt sauce on the bread.

  • Add cooked paneer cubes.

  • Top with sliced onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, pickles, and fresh herbs.

  • Roll tightly and serve.


🍽️ Serve with:

  • French fries or potato wedges

  • Green chutney or hot sauce for extra kick


💡 Tips:

  • You can add grilled bell peppers or mushrooms for more veggies.

  • Use shawarma spice mix if you want authentic flavor.

  • For a vegan version, substitute paneer with tofu or seitan and use vegan yogurt.
